Chemistry

1. Introduction of Discipline and Profession

Chemistry is one of the most active areas in contemporary basic disciplines. It is closely related and interacts with material, energy, biology, medicine and environmental science, etc. The level 1 subject of chemical incorporates five level 2 subjects, including inorganic chemistry, analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry and polymer chemistry and physics.

The discipline has a key laboratory and two experimental teaching demonstration centers at provincial level. Members’ age, title and knowledge structure of discipline team are quite reasonable with excellent academic and teaching team at provincial level. Chemical Process Subject and Material Subject are key subjects at provincial level; Applied Chemistry is key subject at Education Department level. Chemical Engineering and Technology has been regarded as the advantaged subject construction project in Jiangsu Province.

With clear subject direction, obviously subject characteristics and adequate research funding, the discipline has been working for the research on new methods and new technology of new energy, refined petroleum chemicals, inorganic nano material, new polymer and other fields, etc. The discipline now owns a number of modern analysis instruments, including 500 M and 300 M superconducting NMR spectrometer, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, gas-matter and liquid- matter spectrometer, FT-infrared spectroscopy, X-ray single-crystal and powder diffraction, the full spectrum of direct reading plasma emission spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimeter, thermogravimetric analyzer, gel permeation chromatography, etc. In recent years, we have cooperated with the Nanjing University, the Nanjing University of Science and Technology and Nanjing University of Technology to cultivate dozens of Masters and Doctors.

2.TrainingGoals

To meet the needs of socialist modernization, we aim to cultivate senior applied talents that must have the correct outlook on life, that must be both psychologically health and physically health, that must be proficient in foreign language and computer application, that must be skilled at basic theory, specialized knowledge and experimental skills of modern Chemistry, that must have a knowledge of both domestic and overseas’ research status and new development, that must have the ability to research and to solve practical problems using theories independently.

3. Research Direction

(1) Inorganic nanomaterials research and application

(2) Molecular recognition and separation technology

(3) Organic chemical synthesis and application research

(4) Catalytic reaction and molecular simulation

(5) New polymerization method and special structure polymer synthesis
