Chemical Engineering

     Students enter the Chemical Engineering and Technology program towards Bachelor of engineering degree. It is a modern chemical engineering program with emphasis on the design, control, and operation of processes and products in the chemical and allied industries, such as the oil & gas, petrochemical, inorganic chemical and fertilizer, and fine and specialty chemical industries. Careers after graduation include positions as process engineers, product engineers, engineering consultants, technical service engineers, and research & development engineers and Technology in these industries.

   The core of the program consists of a series of courses in physical sciences, chemistry, biochemistry, mathematics, transport phenomena, kinetics, separations, thermodynamics, reaction engineering, process engineering, and engineering economics. The program trains students to be competent engineers, through offering a variety of challenging courses and problem-solving sessions, providing state-of-the-art laboratories, and helping students gain design and teamwork experiences through conducting senior design projects of participating in research projects.

   The program is the first batch of national professional characteristics in China. Petroleum refining engineering and chemical engineering design are special Courses.

Curriculum:

      Courses of General Education

      Advanced Mathematics, College English, General Physics, General Physical Experiment, Linear Algebra, Probability and Mathematical Statistics, Fundamentals of Computer and VB Program Design, etc.

      Basic Courses of the Major

      Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Chemical Thermodynamics, Chemical Kinetics, Fluid Mechanics and Heat Transfer, Mass Transfer and Separation Process, Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics, Chemical Reaction Engineering, etc.

      Specialty-oriented Courses

      Principles of Transport Processes, Chemical Process Analysis and Synthesis, Modern Separation Technology, Basic of Industrial Catalysis, Introduction of Fine Chemical Engineering, Chemical System Engineering, Basic of Organic Chemical Technology, Petroleum Refining Technology, and Coal Chemical Technology, etc.

Program Aims:

   The program is designed not only to disseminate theoretical and latest knowledge of the discipline, but also to equip students with requisite research methodology and ability to explore the unknown. The program prepares students for future careers in the fields of chemical processing, management, marketing, scientific research and product development. The graduates will also be qualified to be engaged in scientific research, product & process design, and teaching in research institutes and institutions of higher learning.

Program Features:

   Drawing on the sophisticated teaching and research facilities as well as rich experience of the professors with extraordinary research power, the program puts much premium on the cultivation of students' innovative and analytical thinking and ability, encouraging students to participate in research project with a view to acquiring hands-on experience under the guidance of professors.

Program Educational Objectives:

   Program educational objectives are broad statements that describe what graduates are expected to attain within a few years after graduation.

(a) Graduates will demonstrate not only proficiency in the principles and methods essential to modern chemical engineering, but also broad perspectives regarding social issues and ethics.

(b) Graduates will demonstrate an understanding of chemical and environmental protection safety, management of chemical production, research and development of chemical products and process, design and magnification of chemical devices.

(c) Graduates will be recognized for excellence and leadership and selected for high-quality industrial, academic and other professional positions.

(d) Graduates will understand the importance of further professional growth and innovation consciousness through continuing education and research

Graduation Outcomes Requirements

(a) an ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering.

(b) an ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data.

(c) an ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety manufacturability, and sustainability.

(d) an ability to function on multidisciplinary teams.

(e) an ability to identify, formulate and solve engineering problems.

(f) an understanding of professional and ethical responsibility.

(g) an ability to communicate effectively.

(h) the broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental and societal context.

(i) a recognition of the need for and an ability to engage in life-long learning.

(j) a knowledge of contemporary issues, especially as related to engineering practice.

(k) an ability to use the techniques, skills and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice.
